Our Founder
"Starting Our Spot was a deeply personal and transformative journey for me. For as long as I can remember, I yearned for a safe space—a place not just for myself, but for others who shared my experiences, struggles, and triumphs. I envisioned a community where people who looked like me, and who walked similar paths, could find solace and support.
Each success story and every life we touch reinforces the power of unity and the importance of our mission. Together, we are building a future where everyone can find their place and feel at home."

Our Story
In 2016, Our Spot KC was founded in response to a shortage of safe, affirming services available to LGBTQ+ individuals in the Kansas City area. Since then, we have rapidly expanded the offerings of our programs and resources to meet the growing demand. In July 2021, Our Spot KC launched our housing program, Lion House, with the opening of our Youth House in Kansas City, Kansas. In December 2024, the Adult & Family House opened in Kansas City, Missouri. Lion House is one of fewer than five programs like it in the country.
After more than a decade of service, the Kansas City Center for Inclusion merged with Our Spot KC in May 2024. In August 2024, Our Spot KC opened the Navigation Center in the East Marlborough neighborhood. In January 2026, KC Pride became part of Our Spot KC.
